About · Who is rafa?

Hi, I'm Rafa — and I write the guides here.

I'm an engineering manager at a US startup. I took the long way around — from London back to São Paulo — and I'm building learnaiwithrafa for the developers and EMs in Brazil who want the same kind of international career, with AI as the lever.

Engineering manager

Leading at a US startup — hiring, shipping, and running teams across time zones, not writing about it from the sidelines.

London → São Paulo

Built a career abroad and brought it home. The international move is the lived experience behind every guide, not a sales pitch.

AI, used in anger

The same tools I lean on in my own editor and with my own team — written up only after they've earned their place in real work.

The short version

I spent years building software and then leading the people who build it — first in London, now from São Paulo. Moving between those two worlds taught me something that has nothing to do with code: the gap between what you've actually done and how a hiring manager abroad reads it is enormous, and almost nobody coaches you across it.

AI changed how fast I can close that gap — in my own work, for the engineers I manage, and for friends back home trying to reach teams overseas. But most of what's written about it is hype, course bait, or someone else's blog post run through a paraphraser. That's the opposite of useful.

So learnaiwithrafa is the version I wish I'd had: short, original guides in plain language, written from real experience and cited where it counts. No padding, nothing republished, nothing selling you a program. Each one is something I'd actually hand to a teammate.

If you're a developer or an EM in Brazil aiming at an international career — or just trying to do better work this week — these are written for you.
